California governor responds assertively to continuing drought

For the first time, California’s governor has insisted that the state’s water supply must be restricted in response to the frustrating drought which has gripped The Golden State. It is not yet clear how these restrictions will impact California’s businesses and residents in practical ways, although these effects are likely to become more apparent as time progresses.

The governor has been very vocal about the need for decisive action in regards to the state’s drought, although many were unsure whether he would go so far as to actually restrict the state’s water supply in this way. However, he recently signed an executive order mandating that the State Water Resources Control Board enforce a staggering 25 percent reduction on the 400 agencies which govern local water supplies all over the state.

According to The New York Times, these agencies essentially serve nine out of every 10 California residents. The executive order mandates that these restrictions be imposed over the course of the next year. It is not yet clear what other actions will need to be taken if the state’s drought continues beyond the next year.

If the state’s water restrictions are impacting your business in any significant way, it may be beneficial to speak with an attorney about your legal options. Given that this kind of executive order is relatively ground breaking, an attorney will likely be best able to advise you about how the order and other environmental compliance laws may be dealt with under the unique circumstances affecting your business.
